Thursday, June 13th from 6:30 – 8pm The Bass presents Art After Hours: Book Club, the Parable of the Sower. Enjoy an evening of conversation and literature, this iteration of the Art After Hours program intersects the visual and literary arts. Drawing inspiration from The Bass’ current exhibitions, each month the Art After Hours: Book Club will read and discuss a book selected for its themes relating to one of the on-view exhibitions.
Octavia E. Butler’s novel, Parable of the Sower, is set amidst the global climate and economic crises of the early-2020s. Originally published in 1993, the speculative nature of Parable of the Sower offers a strikingly accurate view of our world’s current state. We will discuss this novel in conversation with Anne Duk Hee Jordan’s I will always weather with you which explores themes of climate change, technology and humanity’s relationship to the Earth. RSVP HERE.
Please come prepared to discuss the book and for a brief walkthrough of the exhibition.
