Q – What is the best part about being an artist?

– It’s the chance to share my vision with the world and add my voice to the conversation. There’s something incredibly satisfying about turning my ideas into tangible pieces and knowing that I can evoke emotions, spark conversations, or even just make someone smile. Plus, the process of creating is like therapy; I get to dive deep into my thoughts and feelings and emerge with something uniquely mine.

Q – What does Lingua mean, it’s sounds like “language” (a visual language) it’s so unique, where does it originate?

– “Lingua” is a Latin word that translates to “language” in English. It’s often used in various contexts related to language and communication, including phrases like “lingua franca,” which refers to a common language used for communication between speakers of different native languages. In the context of “visual language,” it typically refers to the use of visual elements to communicate ideas, emotions, or concepts, much like spoken or written language does. This can encompass a wide range of artistic and design practices, including painting, graphic design, photography, and even body language in performance art.

Q – Where does your inspiration come from, and how would you describe your work?

– My inspiration comes from a mix of everyday life, from the hilarious moments of everyday life — My goal is to craft pieces that feel worthwhile, like a splash of joy that says, “Yeah, life’s a bit chaotic, but isn’t it awesome?” So, if you’re looking for art that’s both a conversation starter and a daily dose of happiness, I’ve got you covered!

Q – The detail and precision in your artwork is incredible, can you tell us what your creative process is like, how do you create one of your masterpieces?

– Thank you! My creative process is a wild ride. It usually starts with a burst of ideas —often sparked by something completely random. In my artwork, I employ cold pressed paper and an eclectic array of colored pens to manifest my creative vision. The vibrant hues are meticulously layered, with each stroke thoughtfully placed to cultivate depth and texture. I draw inspiration from diverse ideas and styles, integrating stencils to forge intricate patterns that enrich the overall composition. This technique not only infuses the piece with visual intrigue but also ignites conversation as viewers delve into the intricate interplay of colors and forms. Once I have a concept I love, I move on to planning the details, thinking about how to create art that I’d want to hang on my wall — pieces that spark thought, provoke conversation, and evoke a range of emotions, both good and bad. When viewed up close, one can appreciate the painstaking detail and time invested in crafting these unique pieces, which stand as rare and breathtaking additions to any art collection. It’s a mix of planning, spontaneity, and a good dose of humor that makes the whole process worthwhile— and I hope it results in artwork that resonates deeply with anyone who sees it.

Q – What are your favorite art materials, are there any “must-haves” in your art studio? Any favorite pens that you can’t live without?

– When it comes to my favorite art materials, I’d say I have a special love for cold pressed paper and a vibrant array of colored pens. There’s something about the smooth texture of cold pressed paper that really lets colors pop and brings my ideas to life. I can’t live without my trusty set of gel pens, especially in bold shades like magenta and bright yellows. Those colors have a way of adding energy to my work! In my art studio, there are definitely some “must-haves.” Besides my beloved gel pens, I always keep a collection of fine-tipped markers for those intricate details and stencils for adding that extra flair to my designs. I love to incorporate glitter pens for that extra shine and sparkle — they add a fun, dynamic element that makes my pieces stand out. Black pens are crucial for adding shades and depth, creating contrast against the vibrant oranges, which are my absolute favorites.

Q – Which artist or artists (past and/or present) do you admire most and why?

– I admire a diverse range of artists, both past and present, for their unique approaches and the inspiration they provide. One standout is Vincent van Gogh — his use of color and emotion is absolutely breathtaking. Another artist I admire is Frida Kahlo. Her ability to translate personal pain into powerful imagery is both haunting and beautiful. She didn’t shy away from expressing her feelings, and her work encourages others to embrace their own stories, no matter how difficult. It’s like she was saying, “Hey, life’s tough, but at least we can paint about it!” In contemporary art, I’m drawn to Yayoi Kusama for her playful yet thought-provoking use of polka dots and infinity rooms. I mean, who doesn’t love getting lost in a room filled with dots? It’s like being inside a giant ladybug, and her work creates an immersive experience that invites viewers to lose themselves in her vision, making art accessible and relatable. Lastly, I can’t overlook Banksy — his street art challenges societal norms and often sparks conversation about important issues, all while maintaining a sense of humor. It’s like he’s saying, “Here’s a thought-provoking piece; now go grab a coffee and discuss it like intellectuals!” His ability to communicate profound messages through accessible art is something I deeply admire.

Q – Can you tell us about your upcoming showcase at Spectrum Miami Art Fair during Miami Art Week 2024, any new works that you’ll be unveiling?

– I’m thrilled to announce that I’ll be showcasing my latest works at the Spectrum Miami Art Fair during Miami Art Week 2024, from December 4th to December 8th at the Mana Wynwood Convention Center. This year, I’ll be unveiling some new collections that aim to spark a whole range of emotions — think sadness, joy, and laughter, but also anger, empathy, and even a dash of sexual desire and curiosity. I want viewers to experience a rollercoaster of feelings as they interact with the art, inviting them to reflect on their own emotional journeys. When you shine a light to the art the glitter shines and the art comes to life. I can’t wait to present these pieces and engage with fellow artists and art enthusiasts at the fair.
