Miami Artist Randy Nutt’s Exhibition In The Netherlands at Notre Dame des Arts
Miami-based visual artist Randy Nutt has an upcoming exhibit at a popular attraction in the Netherland’s this Fall 2015 for the month of October. The artist was chosen to participate in an exhibition at the magnificent Notre Dame Des Arts, an art gallery housed in the Refectory of Ubbergen, a town in the province of Gelderland. In the chapel of the former convent and boarding school for girls, Notre Dame des Anges, gallery curators organize monthly contemporary art exhibitions on an annual basis from March through November. Behind this gallery are enthusiastic inhabitants of the Refectory, volunteers who beautify and maintain the space of the chapel for artists and art enthusiasts to enjoy, and thus a curious and appreciative audience has evolved.
The gallery provides an annual exhibition schedule where individual artists showcase a solo exhibit each month from March to November. Nutt is known for using a variety of media in the creation of his art pieces including pastels, pointillistic spray paint, cut paper and collage to create his renowned mixed media works. For this exhibition in October, Nutt will be featuring his popular pastel drawings on paper mounted on canvas. The gallery is open to the public and admission is free every Saturday/Sunday from 1-5pm.
“My work is about ideas, inspired by patterns we are immersed in. Forces, shapes & rhythms of nature, positive & negative space, how humans & nature interact – this is what I think about. Unknown symbols, layers of color, lines, forms & sometimes text make their way into my work. I make art so I can see what I am thinking. I make art so I can get closer to the human world and closer to the natural world – closer to life. Media have included spray paint (used with templates and stencils), collage, water-based paints, cut painted paper, pastels, colored pencils. Recently, I create the works with pastels on paper. Then I mount the paper on a canvas which has already been prepared with gesso in a thick layer so that the final top surface is softy textured. Lastly the surface is sealed with a clear spray and I texture the surface so the work becomes more of an object or ARTefact, the documentation of an idea.” explains Randy Nutt of his creative process and artwork.
Notre Dame des Arts is located at Rijksstraatweg 37, 6574 AC, Ubbergen – Netherlands. The exhibition space is housed in a beautiful chapel built in Gothic Revival style between 1910 and 1916. It was originally the former convent and boarding school for girls Notre Dame des Anges, of which the name Notre Dame des Arts is derived. Architect JH Groenendaal was inspired by the chapel Sainte Chapelle in Paris. This is reflected among other things in the pointed arch windows with stained glass. Since the mid-1980’s the religious function of the chapel slowly began to disappear, and over the years the church was converted into a contemporary showcase for visual artists to exhibit original artworks within a majestic, open and bright space.
