Artem + Scientia Gallery in Miami Brings Together Disciplines of Science, Applied Technology, and Fine Art

Miami’s newest and most unique gallery Artem + Scientia opened with an inaugural exhibition showcasing Dr. Obdulio Piloto’s journey expanding eight years developing groundbreaking technology. The gallery is a one-of-a-kind experience for art collectors seeking to have an impact on humanity beyond the arts.

The gallery presents the inaugural exhibition ‘A Transcendental Pursuit’, on view from April 11 through May 11, 2019 featuring the work of Dr. Piloto’s Euphoria and Adversity series. He was born and raised in a traditional Cuban family in Miami’s Hialeah, whose humble beginnings exposed him to the realities of human challenges. At the age of 8, he lost his great-grandmother to cancer, an experience that initiated his interest in the sciences and urged his lifelong mission to find solutions for one of the world’s most devastating diseases.

Dr. Piloto’s artworks are made with the molecular signatures generated by NuTec, a radical technology made possible by advances in nanotechnology, organic chemistry, materials science, molecular medicine, and artificial intelligence expanding eight years in development. His representation of people as NuTec Molecular Portraits, a series of pattern-rich spots depicting the biochemical uniqueness of the individual, remove the cultural, socio-economic, racial, sexual and religious baggage we automatically associate with images of people and invite viewers to witness the power of the human mind to create wonders that have the potential to alter the course of history.

His natural brilliance and determination earned Dr. Piloto a place at Cornell University, he went on to obtain a Ph.D. at Johns Hopkins University Medical School and pursue post-graduate research at Stanford University. In 2011, Dr. Piloto co-founded Entopsis, a startup backed by visionary Silicon Valley investor Peter Thiel (through Breakout Labs) that developed the groundbreaking diagnostic technology of NuTec. Applying methods of molecular portraiture to create cutting-edge works of art, the noble aim of Dr. Piloto’s art is to raise awareness.

In Dr. Piloto’s Euphoria series, the artist manifests the exultation of creative epiphany and scientific discovery. Explosions of color and expressionistic strokes represent the exhilaration that an artist or scientist feels when he or she discovers a hidden truth about our universe. This euphoric high, more potent and long lasting than any drug, helps the creative explorer endure life’s hardships and challenges as he or she is inspired to continue transcending human limitations and shape endless possibilities for the future.

The artist says of his Adversity series, “Adversity is a struggle within the individual, as such it only exist in one’s mind. These struggles and fears shape me and are a fertile ground for growth.”

Dr. Piloto signs each piece with paint embedded with encrypted DNA from his genome & provenance is tracked with Blockchain technology.
