Downtown Miami’s Digital Canvas
The InterContinental Miami Hotel just acquired celebrated curator, Eric Cade Schoenborn, former Creative Director at the Knight Center, who’s been tapped to spearhead the hotel’s digital arts initiative. He has planned quarterly exhibits to be displayed on the hotel’s digital art walls and lobby screens year-round beginning in 2015.
In addition, the hotel is retiring its 200-ft-tall dancing lady it debuted in December of 2012, they’re looking for the next mover and shaker who will take their place in Miami’s skyline! All genres of dance are encouraged to audition for the role on Saturday, November 22nd. Judges include Jane Castro from VH1, along with a member from YoungArts Foundation and last year’s winner Jay Marcos. Music will be provided during the open call auditions, but bring your own music in case you make it to the finals.
The hotel’s upcoming 2nd Annual Dance-Off ‘Open Call Tryouts’ are taking place at the InterContinental Miami at 100 Chopin Plaza on Saturday, November 22nd from 9 am – 12 pm; Finals begin at 1 pm until 3 pm in search of new skyline stars to renew the role of the iconic “dancing lady” or “dancing gent”, illuminated on the hotel’s 19-story exterior digital canvas in a light show visible for miles across the Downtown Miami skyline.
The hotel is recruiting local talent to capture the pulse of Miami, and at the same time, redefine the city’s electric skyline with an added layer of depth and dimension that reflects onto Biscayne Bay. Local contestants will soon line up on Saturday, November 22nd to perform ballet, free-form dance, and hip hop routines, competing for a spot to leave their silhouettes in digital history. Even though a winner will be determined that day, on New Year’s Eve 2015, the InterContinental Miami will retire the existing dancers, and unveil new digital dancers making moves over Miami’s skyline. This event is FREE and open to the public.
