Art and Culture Center/Hollywood: Drawing on Likeness
January 18, 2020 @ 5:00 pm - 8:00 pm
Saturday, January 18th from 5-8pm you are cordially invited to the Opening Reception of Drawing on Likeness at the Art and Culture Center/Hollywood. New York critic and independent curator Saul Ostrow has organized the exhibition ‘Drawing on Likeness‘, which includes work by Ivelisse Jiménez (Puerto Rico/USA), Gustavo Prado (Brazil/USA) and Lidija Slavkovic (Serbia/USA). The exhibition consists of work that has been previously fabricated as well as site-specific pieces.
The artists will arrive prior to the opening of Drawing on Likeness to use the exhibition space as a site of production. A publication of the exhibition will be available online. These artists work in diverse media and genres; Jiménez makes painterly installations of transparent materials, Prado creates multi-media works including photographs, videos and sculptural objects constructed with surveillance mirrors, and Slavkovic makes “cut-drawing” as well as imagistic works, which explore the space between perception and cognition. Seemingly, this would appear as a random mash-up since these artists do not share any singular concept or theme as subject. Yet amidst all their differences the exhibition highlights their affinities, shared structures, conceptual characteristics, and aesthetics amongst their work, which they have morphed.
There will be an artist talk with Saul Ostrow, Ivelisse Jiménez, Gustavo Prado, and Lidija Slavkovic at 5:30 pm. Also opening this night will be Michelle Lisa Polissaint’s concurrent exhibition, ‘Ruining Love Songs‘.
Admission is $10 – Free for Members.
