This exhibition explores a turning point in the City of Coral Gables when Dorothy Thomson changed the course of history for the Biltmore Hotel. In 1980, the historic icon was vacant and vandalized.
Commissioner Thomson changed her vote in the City Commission and paved the way for the Biltmore to be restored as the hotel landmark it is today.
Along with the work of other city commissioners then, Dorothy Thomson was decisive in upholding the architectural legacy of city founder George E. Merrick. The exhibition also covers Thomson’s remarkable political career and her many contributions to community life and the historic preservation of The City Beautiful.
