Saturday, May 6th at 1pm join us at Emerson Dorsch gallery when Salty & Fresh curators, Tyler Emerson Dorsch and Felecia Chizuko Carlisle will host a discussion and share insights on Paula Wilson’s practice and the historical narratives at play in her work. Salty & Fresh will close on May 13th, 2017. Paula Wilson works from her home base in the remote New Mexican town of Carrizozo. There she luxuriates in an abundance of wide-open space while bathing in the array of a rich color gradient sky that is reflected by the White Sands desert floor. Escaping to the Land of Enchantment is nothing new for artists, but Wilson’s form of refuge comes in the material act of making. She makes printmaking into a political act through its promotion as an art form. She undoes post-modern trends and Southwest histories of land art by shifting back to the studio, back into the process.
