Locust Projects: Opening Reception for The Comet and the Glacier
November 29, 2016 @ 7:00 pm - 10:00 pm

Tuesday, November 29th from 7-10pm Locust Projects will host a reception to celebrate the debut of ‘The Comet and the Glacier‘, a new video opera and immersive installation by artist Alexis Gideon on view through January 21, 2017. Originally trained as a musician and composer, Alexis Gideon is known for his animated live “video operas” – a term the artist coined to describe his combination of stop-motion animation with spoken word/rap/song. For The Comet and the Glacier, the artist will perform a musical arrangement that corresponds to the videos, with the animated characters performing in sync. In the project space see Miami-based Huffer Collective’s “Save Your Selves“, a monumental pyramid-like structure displaying detritus that is specific to Miami and the artists, continuing their attempts to annihilate Miami’s status as an “art world mecca for rich tourists”. Also on view will be Backlash II, an installation of sculptural paintings by artist Katie Bell that evoke the domestic sphere. Extended gallery hours during Art Basel: Monday – Saturday, November 28 – December 3, 10am to 7pm.
