Saturday, February 5th from 2 – 4pm, this year for Black History Month, the Museum of Contemporary Art, North Miami is drawing the spotlight on Garrett Augustus Morgan, Sr., an African-American inventor, businessman, and community leader. His most notable inventions were a three-position traffic signal that we still use today. In light of Garrett Morgan’s invention and in honor of the Chinese New Year, MOCA miniMakers will celebrate with lights. Children will learn about the history of Chinese paper lanterns, and will create/engineer their own paper lanterns to take home. REGISTER HERE.
MOCA miniMakers is MOCA’s free and inclusive series of art workshops for children ages six and up. Children will have access to a variety of art techniques, as well as an inclusive curriculum incorporating step-by-step guides, STEAM activation, and creative free play. Taught by experienced artists and sponsored by the North Miami Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA), MOCA miniMakers aims to foster an accessible spirit of learning through the arts.
