NSU Art Museum Art Roundtable: Radical Chusmeri
June 19, 2018 @ 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm
Tuesday, June 19th from 12noon – 1:30pm join us at NSU Art Museum for Art Roundtable: Radical Chusmeri with Rosemarie Romero, a Miami-based mixed-media and performance artist whose works question issues of race, gender, class, women’s work and sexuality. She will share her personal stories, pleasures, and appreciation of camp and kitsch as she explores Latinx identity, femininity, and queerness. Romero uses the concept of “radical chusmeria” as a form of feminist resistance to cultural hegemony and will discuss her participatory projects Porn Nail$ Salon and FluidFaces, immersive installations that invade the public space with hyper-feminine aesthetics, humor, and public intervention to explore themes of identity, sexuality, and self-transformation.
Romero has an MFA in Photography from University of Florida. Her work has been exhibited in national solo and group shows and was recently exhibited in NADA Miami Beach during Miami Art Week.
Free for museum members; $10 non-members. RSVP here or (954)262-0258.
Lunch may be pre-ordered from the museum cafe by calling (954)262-0255. View menu here
