NSU Art Museum: Conversations with Collectors
January 25, 2020 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Saturday, January 25th from 4-5pm experience NSU Art Museum’s new season of Conversations with Collectors. The season kicks off with a discussion on the phenomenon of art hotels moderated by NSU Art Museum’s Director Bonnie Clearwater. Meet three visionary collectors who revolutionized this concept.
Curator of the Cricket Taplin Collection, Cricket Taplin and her late husband Martin reopened Miami Beach’s iconic Sagamore Hotel in 2001 after a major restoration and re-conceptualized it as one of the country’s first boutique art hotels. With a notable collection of contemporary art by emerging and established artists, The Sagamore became a successful model for hotels across the country.
Suzi Cordish and her husband David, established The Cordish Art Collection, which debuted in 2018 at their luxury LIVE! Hotel in Maryland. As the collection’s curator, she spent over three years commissioning or selecting art by international and local artists who include Andy Warhol, Sylvy Fleury, Nick Cave, Not Vital, Jennifer Steinkamp, Chul Hyun Ahn, and others.
Lesley Goldwasser and her family own and operate The Betsy-South Beach, a boutique luxury hotel, located in Miami Beach, known for its community-based philanthropic work, and commitment to arts and culture. She is curator of both The Betsy’s visual arts exhibits in the hotel’s nine gallery spaces and its ambient music program with over 13,000 selections property-wide.
