NSU Art Museum presents SPF’20 Workshop – Image Transfer & Collage

Thursday, November 12th from 6-8pm join NSU Art Museum Fort Lauderdale and the Small Press Fair (SPF) for a virtual workshop exploring three at-home image transfer methods and collaging techniques through live instruction and examples. Participants will be guided through acetone, tape and gel medium transfer methods utilizing their own photography. The workshop invites participants to follow along with their own supplies from home and includes time for questions and discussion.

Instructor Bio:
Sammi McLean is a Florida-native and hybridized maker working with installation and assemblage through the lens of printmaking. A practicing visual artist, McLean has taught printmaking at various local institutions. She currently serves as the lead teaching artist and workshop and gallery coordinator for IS Projects in Fort Lauderdale, FL.

Supply List:
*All transfer techniques will require B&W or Color Laser print out OR photo copy from a toner-based copy machine
(If using text, you will need to flip your image before printing as it will become mirrored)
– 100% Acetone
– Cotton Ball
– Jar for acetone (optional)
– Burnisher: metal spoon, credit card, bone folder, scissor handles, etc
– Gloves
– Low tack tape like painters tape
– Clear scotch shipping tape or contact paper
– Sponge with a rough side & warm water
– Mod Podge or Acrylic Gel Medium
– Smooth surfaces: paper, wood panel, smooth tile, fabric, plexi etc
– Xacto Knife
– Scissors
