Saturday, February 26th from 4 – 5pm experience a live, in-person art lecture at NSU Art Museum in Fort Lauderdale, Talking Walls – Narrative and Propaganda in Italian Renaissance Murals: a Rocky Ruggiero Lecture on Renaissance Painting. Join celebrated art historian Dr. Rocky Ruggiero as he explores the Renaissance roots of today’s street art. Discover how Renaissance painters transformed the walls of the churches, palaces, and streets of their day into visual platforms from which they could project religious, social, and political ideals. These ideals were expressed often in narratives, as allegories or in historical subjects. This presentation will explore the evolution of mural paintings in medieval and early modern Italian art using the works of Giotto, Michelangelo, Raphael, Botticelli, and Fra Angelico.
