The University of Miami presents For Darby: A Retrospective Exhibition by George Bethea
July 13, 2019 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm
Saturday, July 13th from 6 – 9pm the University of Miami presents an Opening Reception, For Darby: A Retrospective Exhibition by George Bethea, at the University of Miami Gallery in Wynwood. For Darby is a survey exhibition of George Bethea’s paintings from 2006 through 2019 and is in honor of Walter Darby Bannard (September 23, 1934 – October 2, 2016). Over their 25 year friendship, Bannard has championed Bethea’s paintings in numerous essays. Often stating that Bethea is one of the best painters of his generation. “At the same time that he is an innovator, ahead of his time, Bethea is an artist who belongs in spirit to earlier generations, for whom art was as serious in intention as it was joyful in experience. Bethea’s paintings make us turn from our usual pictorial presumptions to more intensely see and feel.” For Darby will be on view from July 9 through July 28, 2019.
