Wolfsonian-FIU: Making America Modern
November 1, 2018 @ 6:00 pm
Thursday, November 1st at 6pm enjoy a tour at The Wolfsonian-FIU for Making America Modern — dreamy decadence and sleek streamlining are center stage in this full night of Art Deco that includes a curator-led tour plus a talk at 7pm by design historian Marilyn Friedman. In the 1930s, designers in the U.S. put their own unique spin on Art Deco and other modern styles that had already made a splash in Europe. Join design historian Marilyn Friedman, author of the new book Making America Modern: Interior Design in the 1930s, as she discusses how luminaries like Donald Deskey, Paul T. Frankl, and Kem Weber transformed American interiors by embracing a brand-new aesthetic of simplicity, practicality, and comfort. Presented as part of The Wolfsonian’s Mark Mamolen program series on American homes.
